In Singapore, it is too difficult not to turn on the aircon due to the warm and humid weather. However, with the aircon, comes the problem of dry skin, or even breakouts. People react differently to long term exposure to aircon, some may experience extreme dryness in the skin while some may be perfectly fine.
We would like to recommend five ways to prevent dryness in your skin to prevent any skin issues in the future:
- Stay Hydrated
This may sound obvious, but some are guilty of not drinking any water when they are working. Some may even drink more caffeinated drinks which will further dehydrate.
Make sure you drink water during work. Or you can turn to juices if water is too boring.
- Get out from the aircon office
Many of us may get our colleagues to pack lunch for us and eat at of our desk. We don’t leave the office at all during working hours which exposes our skin to the aircon for a good 9 to 10 hours. It’s time to get some fresh air.
Walk out of the office to have lunch, you may want to head to an alfresco place for lunch. Or even take a walk during tea breaks. This will help to refresh you skin.
- Moisturiser
Keep a bottle of moisturiser at your desk. Constantly moisturise if you feel your skin is dry.
- Humidifier
If the room is way too dry, you might consider a humidifier to add some humidity. A rough guide is 40 to 60% humidity is good. Anything below 40%, you may need a humidifier.
- Avoid heavily scented skin products
This is to avoid any further irritation of the skin or clocking of pores. This may aggravate the skin issue and causes breakouts.
